What Does The Follow-Up Care Look Like?

This is a question people almost never ask but I always bring it up! It’s hard to look ahead at what you’ll need after the birth when the birth itself seems so big and mysterious. Home birth follow-up care is one of the best reasons to hire a midwife. You’ll be seen 1 day post-baby, 1 week post-baby and again at 3 weeks and 6-8 weeks. Your midwife will help with breastfeeding, well-baby care, postpartum mood disorder screening, and check for complications such as high blood pressure, infection, hemorrhage, and mastitis. She can offer you a Pap smear and family planning counseling at your final visit. Your midwife will remain on call for you until your baby is eight weeks old.
